Embodied understanding is run by Helen Miskin BSc (Hons), MA, Adv. Dip, and accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP).

Helen began her career in 2000 as a Speech and Language Therapist working with children in South Wales. She developed a special interest in stammering and dysfluency, and became clinical lead in profound and multiple learning difficulties in preschool children. She set up a Sure Start service in 2004 collaborating with local education boards, health boards, and councils.

In 2006 she began the process of changing her career to a psychotherapist. Having worked so much with the emotional and relational aspects of communication, she decided to make this her true focus. She qualified in 2009 as an integrative psychotherapist and began working for her local NHS service, MIND counselling service, and later the Marches Counselling Service. Furthering her interest in philosophy, in 2011 she qualified as an Existential Psychotherapist, which uses philosophy as a base to understand the human condition and work with people at a pre-scientific level. She gained her accreditations and began full time in the NHS as an experienced counsellor, training and working in additional therapeutic models including Counselling for Depression (CfD) and Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT).

She currently splits her time between her work in the NHS, running embodied understanding, and developing materials for therapists and the public to use… and of course her private and social life!
